Things rocking my world this week, particular order in no.

- Connoisseur Cookies n Cream ice cream. Expensive, but amazing. Arrrrrr.

- Boards of Canada new record The Campfire Headphase. Specifically the amazing 2nd track and also the way they treat the guitar with vibrato and warbly detuning. Lively and inspiring stuff for me, though there is a perception that the guys have gone a bit more mainstream. It's lovely to hear something fresh from them.

- Colin Wilson's "Poltergeist!"

- ...this is not a rehearsal - modern dance bizarre from Norway. Based on Ovid's Metamorphosis, loosely, and sometimes in fast French from the male dancer. Featuring the cold music of murky Murcof, which I have to say didn't endear the dance terribly to me, the two dancers street-freaked their ways with a quick and sweaty cool, and this featured the longest and most twisty stage kiss I have ever seen. Plus being at the Opera House is always exciting.

- Buskers. Before the dance show I sat in front of an acoustic guitarist playing arrangements of your classic Beatles, ABBA and Richard Marx songs. Actually I could have done without the second version of Right Here Waiting, but the man could play, though he looked like a skinny, nondescript average Joe. He was doing so well putting up with two poor and dirty "sidekicks" who insisted on sort of singing along to Piano Man, in a forceful, "don't you hear what this man is playing, give him money you rich ignorant bastards" sort of a way. When he was packing up I ran off to get some change and a banana smoothy, passed it to him, and then got some strange sermon from one sidekick on the "Tree of Life" and how good it is to give... Anyway it is great seeing live music wherever it is. Stop and see a busker's set sometime, then give them what you would if they were at a venue. Feels good.

- Sideways. Pathetic American middle aged men who can't tell the truth to save their lives. And are somehow endearing at the same time. Wine tasting as a world. A great scene with a motorbike. And then one with a car.

- Google. Desktop search. Being able to find an email I wrote 7 months ago in 0.1 seconds, letting the computer do what it is good at and remember what I shouldn't have to...

- Kye's engagement party. My oldest friend of 20 years is tying the knot with the loveliest girl and I could not be happier for them. Megan is bright and natural, and brings that our in Kye. What a great party, marquis, food, beer, live music. Mad props to them.

- Daylight Saving. Pure genius. Apart from feeling tired and hungry on four nights this week at 6pm. The first night on Sunday I was playing golf with Kye and we were the last off the course. We played a slow and enjoyable round in a Melbourne which gently threatened to rain. And didn't. On the 4th hole I came up with a new band name, not at all inspired by my performance on it... Two Shit Tee Shots. Take it, run with it, it's yours. Anyway, by the 8th hole we were playing in twilight, but somehow we relaxed and played better!

Honourable mentions go to Sufjan Stevens' beauty and innocence; the Lane Cove Tunnel builders and how a block of flats can somehow fall into it; reverse osmosis pure water; Laura Veirs; About A Boy movie and the soundtrack by Badly Drawn Boy.
